Care, Maintenance & Warranty
Stewardship & End of Life
All of our products can be returned to us at the end of its useful life or arranged to be collected by DesignByThem at a negotiated transport fee for product repair, reuse or recycling as part of our product stewardship program. If the product can not be repaired we will ensure that as much of the product will be recycled or reused, limiting the amount of material contributing to landfill.
Warranty
All full priced furniture and lighting - Standard 5 year warranty from the date of delivery against any defects in workmanship, and must be cared for in accordance with the care instructions supplied.
All full priced accessories - Standard 3 year warranty from the date of delivery against any defects in workmanship, and must be cared for in accordance with the care instructions supplied.
All sample sale products are void of warranty.
This warranty is in addition to the rights granted by NSW State and Federal laws.
The warranty shall be deemed void if repair work is carried out without prior consultation with DesignByThem.
DesignByThem will not accept responsibility in any way for damage caused by incorrect assembly, vandalism, misuse or accident and such damage shall be construed as a breach of the warranty contract.
General wear and tear or natural ageing of the materials used are not covered in the warranty.
DesignByThem will provide repair options and make available parts or complete items free of charge at our discretion if items have been shown to be faulty. Parts or full items to be supplied within a reasonable period of time but no longer than the lead time of the initial product.
DesignByThem will not be liable for, and specifically excludes, any claims caused directly or indirectly by any event or matter beyond its control, including incidental, consequential or contingent damages suffered as a result of the use or assembly of the furniture or a breach of this warranty either written or implied.
The customer must inspect the goods on delivery and must on delivery notify DesignByThem in writing of any evident defect/damage, shortage in quantity, or failure to comply with the description within 7 days of delivery.
The customer must notify any other alleged defect in the goods as soon as reasonably possible after any such defect becomes evident. Upon such notification the customer must allow the seller to inspect the goods or provide photographs of the defect.
The warranty terms are accepted by the end user upon order and supply.
Care & Maintenance

Fabric
It is recommended to lightly vacuum fabrics with a brush attachment on a weekly basis to prevent dirt and dust build up.
For best colour longevity avoid direct sunlight as prolonged UV exposure may change the colour of your fabric (please refer to your specific fabric specification for UV resistance rating).
For any difficult / non water based stains it is recommended that they are removed by professional cleaners and that an annual cleaning is done.
Water based stains or light spills should be treated as soon as possible by gently wiping / dabbing with a damp cloth wrung in a mild solution of water and washing detergent. Avoid using chemical cleaners or scrubs. Allow the fabric to dry out of direct sunlight completely before use.
Please follow any specific instructions provided with your item as it may vary depending on your fabric. -
Leather
It is recommended to lightly wipe leather with a clean soft cloth on a weekly basis to prevent dirt and dust build up.
For best longevity avoid direct sunlight as prolonged UV exposure may change the colour of your leather and do not place leather items close to heaters.
It is best to not place leather items in very hot / dry rooms as it will loose its moisture.
For any difficult stains it is recommended that they are removed by professional cleaners and that an annual conditioning is done. If a professional cleaner is not available at short notice treat the stain with a diluted leather cleaning soap (please contact us for recommendations before using anything) and make sure to wipe a larger area to prevent any patchiness.
Water based stains or light spills should be treated as soon as possible by gently dabbing with a dry cloth. Avoid rubbing the surface or using chemical cleaners or scrubs. Allow the leather to dry out of direct sunlight completely before use.

Powder Coated Metal
Clean surfaces with a damp, lint free, non abrasive cloth and then wipe dry after cleaning. Ensure all cleaning solutions do not contain any bleaching agents, abrasives or solvents. Make sure to test on underside or non visible surface of the product first to ensure cleaner is compatible with material. Ensure that all the cleaning solution is wiped off the surface and is not allowed to sit for any extended period of time.

Solid Timber
Clean surfaces with a damp, lint free, non abrasive cloth and then wipe dry after cleaning. For more stubborn stains use a non abrasive timber furniture cleaner. Ensure all cleaning solutions do not contain any bleaching agents, abrasives or solvents. Make sure to test on underside of product first to ensure cleaner is compatible with material. Ensure that all the cleaning solution is wiped off the surface of the chair and is not allowed to sit for any extended period of time. Where possible try to prevent any cleaning solution getting into contact with the fasteners on the underside of the chair. Light Scuff marks or scratches can be repaired using a wipe on polyxoil - contact DesignByThem for further information.

Recycled Plastic
Clean surfaces with a damp, lint free, non abrasive cloth or sponge. For more stubborn stains use a non abrasive plastic cleaner or a low concentration mild detergent with water. Ensure all cleaning solutions do not contain any bleaching agents, abrasives or solvents. Make sure to test on underside of product first to ensure cleaner is compatible with material. Ensure that all the cleaning solution is wiped off the surface of the product and is not allowed to sit for any extended period of time. To rejuvenate any surface from any light scuffing, wipe with Armour-All or equivalent plastic polish. Where possible try to prevent any cleaning solution getting into contact with the fasteners on the underside of the item.

Powder Coat & Plastic Table Tops
Wipe gently with a damp soft cloth using warm soapy water and mild detergent or with furniture appropriate plastic cleaner. Test detergent or cleaner on underside or non visible area a day before. Always ensure to wipe dry any detergent or cleaner immediately. Avoid steam cleaning, abrasive cleansers, steel brushes/wools and cleaners containing chlorine. Avoid scratching the surface by dry dusting. Do not allow dirt to accumulate or liquids to dry out and harden. Never use strong solvents to clean powder-coated surfaces.

Timber Veneer
Do a gentle initial wipe with a soft microfiber cloth going in the direction of the grain to remove any hard grains or dirt that may scratch the surface. Wipe with a damp soft cloth using warm soapy water and mild detergent or with furniture appropriate cleaner ensuring to wipe in the direction of the grain. Always test any new detergent or cleaner on underside or non visible area first a day before to see if there are any adverse effects. Always ensure to completely dry any detergent or cleaner. Avoid steam cleaning, abrasive cleansers, steel brushes/wools and cleaners containing chlorine. Do not allow dirt to accumulate or liquids to dry out and harden. Never use strong solvents to clean surfaces.

Compact Laminate
Using a mild household spray wipe down the compact laminate with a soft cloth. Dry using a soft cloth so as not to leave any cleaning solutions on the surface. You may also use Methylated Spirit on a soft cloth using a circular cleaning motion. Thoroughly clean over the wider area with water and detergent on a damp cloth afterwards to remove any residual Methylated Spirit. Avoid using commercial cleaning products, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners/papers.

Maintenance Instructions
Check that no fasteners have become loose from freight, handling or heavy use. If there are any loose fasteners this can be identified by any part movement. Ensure any loose screws are tightened with Allen key or hex head driver. Tighten until there is a slight resistance. Please ensure that any fasteners are not overtightened.
